    A class for writers stuck in a rut. Move past your writer's block or fear of sharing with timed writing sessions, a variety of prompts (including phrases, objects, and memory work), and in-class sharing.

  • Creating Character

    Explore characters in modern literature and practice your own character-building through reading, writing exercises, and short in-class workshops.

  • Contemporary Women Writers

    Delve into the robust world of creative writing penned by women within the past 20 years. Authors include Carmen Maria Machado, Ottessa Moshfegh, Ruth Ozeki, Casey Plett, Karen Russell, Rebecca Solnit, and Lidia Yuknavitch.

  • Reading & Writing the Wild

    An exploration of nature writing, from our own backyards to the wider wild world. Students will read and discuss published short stories, essays, and poems, as well as complete their own weekly writing assignments. Participants are encouraged to use their surroundings as inspiration, write every week, and share their work in a group reading on the last day of class.

  • Exploring Setting

    Investigate the definition(s) of setting and examine how setting affects and is affected by character, point of view, and language in short fiction and personal essay.

  • Workshopping for Beginners

    Learn the basics of the workshop process and practice giving and receiving feedback on short fiction and nonfiction writing exercises.
